Groundcover, Shrub and Climbing Roses
Add season long color from the ground up with roses.
Reduce maintenance and increase success by growing one of the easy-care rose varieties. You’ll find a variety of sizes and shapes perfect for any size garden or large container. Cover beds, slopes and retaining walls with low-growing groundcover roses. Use shrub roses for hedging, mixed plantings and shrub borders. Add vertical interest and cover trellises, arbors and walls with climbers.
Grow roses in full sun with rich well-drained soil for best results. Pick a spot that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight such as an east facing location. The morning sun quickly dries the dew off the leaves reducing the risk of disease.
For shadier locations try growing once blooming roses and those with fewer flower petals. These tend to be more shade tolerant.
A bit more information: Combine shrub roses with low maintenance perennials like Walker’s Low Catmint (Nepeta x faassenii ‘Walker’s Low’) and Calamint (Calamintha nepeta nepeta). Both are long blooming, non-aggressive bee favorites that complement the beauty of shrub roses.
