Landscape Lighting Maintenance Tips
Landscape lighting is a great way to brighten and warm the winter landscape. Strategically placed lights can highlight a tree’s form and bark, mark a pathway or create a warm welcome for you and your guests. A bit of regular maintenance will keep the lights glowing throughout the year.
Check for damaged fixtures and exposed wires caused by weather extremes, digging pets, mowers and people activity. Replace damaged fixtures as needed. Examine exposed wires and rebury those that are damage-free. Don’t hesitate to call a professional when in doubt.
Clean glass lenses with a bit of soapy water and a soft rag. This is usually sufficient for removing grime that collects over time.
Adjust your lights as needed to ensure they are illuminating the areas or plants you prefer. As plants grow or fixtures are knocked out of alignment, you may need to make some minor adjustments.
A bit more information: Check and replace bulbs as needed. Newer long-lasting LED’s seldom need replacing, but year-round weather extremes can shorten the life of other bulbs.
