Uneven Ripening of Tomatoes
We have a small yard and grow our vegetables intensively in raised beds. The problem we are and have experienced is that tomatoes do not get totally ripe. One side is red and the other is still green.
Uneven ripening often occurs when temperatures are cool or extremely hot and the weather is dry. Overcrowded and over fertilized (too much nitrogen) or weak and spindly plants can also fail to fully ripen. Though we can’t control the weather - proper spacing, good soil preparation and thorough watering whenever the top few inches of soil start to dry will help reduce the problem.
