Spring Blooming Christmas Cactus
I have several Christmas cacti (Schlumbergera bridgessii). One blooms in November and again in April. Is this a problem or do I have a special cactus?
You probably have an Easter (Schlumbergera gaertneri or Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri ) or Thanksgiving (Schlumbergera truncata) cactus as well as the Christmas cactus. These look very similar to each other. They all form flowers when the days are short, nights are cool and soil is kept slightly dry. The Easter and Thanksgiving cacti set flowers at different times (usually around Easter or Thanksgiving) than the Christmas cactus. So enjoy your winter long flower display.
