Petunia Leaves Turned Brown and Dried Out

have several baskets of wave petunias. They did wonderfully well all summer long. Recently the leaves turned dry and brown. What could have caused this?

Water and fertilizer are key to growing healthy and attractive hanging baskets.  Extremely hot summer temperatures require us to water hanging baskets once even twice a day.  Regular fertilization with a flowering plant fertilizer is also important to keep these plants healthy and blooming.  Review your watering practices.  Do your hanging baskets have drainage holes?  Too much water can be as detrimental as allowing the plants to go too dry.  The same goes with fertilizer.  If all this seems fine, it may be stem rot or a virus.  Summer weather is often perfect for plant diseases.  Check the stems for signs of discoloration and rot.  If present, a disease is the culprit.  Dispose of diseased plants and disinfect containers before using them again.
