Late Season Color in Zone 5
What flowers are in season in the Milwaukee area in the month of November? Why I ask, a November 10th wedding.
Fortunately florists can get just about any flower anytime of the year if you are willing to pay the fee. Consult a professional florist for a list of flowers that fit your budget. Collecting flowers from the garden to use in the wedding may be difficult. A hard freeze can hit your area as early as late September turning most garden flowers a lovely brown.
Some of the more frost tolerant fall blooming perennials include mums, asters, and Japanese anemones. Frost tolerant annuals include hardy pansies, ornamental cabbage or kale, alyssum, lobelia, dusty miller, snapdragons and petunia.
The dried seed heads of the ornamental grasses are beautiful as well as the yellow blooms of the common witchhazel. An easier and more reliable solution may be to collect and dry flowers from the garden now throughout the fall to use in the November wedding.
