Increase the Raspberry Harvest

We have wild black raspberries on our property along fence lines and woods edges.  Is there anything I can do to increase production next year?

A little pruning and mulching should help increase production. Prune out the older canes that already bore fruit.  They are done bearing and their presence increases the risk of disease.  In spring cut back side shoots to 8 to 10 inches to encourage branching and increased fruit production.  Mulch the soil around the raspberries with woodchips, shredded leaves or other organic material.  This will reduce weeds and grass growing near the raspberries that compete for moisture and nutrients.
