Caring for Honeysuckle Vine
Do I need to do anything to the Goldflame Honeysuckle? It grew quite a bit last summer & I am wondering do I need to prune it, or will it just keep growing where it left off last year? If I need to shape it or trim it down, when is the best time to do that?
It sounds like your honeysuckle is doing great. Newly planted vines are pruned to encourage strong shoots to develop at the base of the plant. Remove damaged or weak (not necessarily young) stems. Once your vine is established, prune out the tips of those shoots that have reached the desired height. Cut any overly long shoots back to a healthy bud or shorter adjoining stem. Renovate overgrown plants by pruning the stems back to two feet above the ground. Thin new growth as needed.
