Planting & Care
  • Space plants 15 to 20 inches apart
  • Floppy plants in shade and rich soils
  • Cut back 8 inch plants in half in June to promote stout, compact growth with no flopping
  • Do not deadhead late bloomers, save for winter interest
  • Deadhead summer bloomers for aesthetics
Problems
Anthracnose, aphids, crown rot in poorly draining soils
Varieties
  • Vera Jameson - red-purple stems and leaves with pink flowers
  • Purple Emperor - 15 inches, smoky purple-red foliage and dusty red flowers
