Roses Problems

In the spring, my roses were full of leaves and had a lot of blossoms. This year the leaves have black spots, turn yellow and fall off. Some dry up, turn gray and curl up. There is new growth on the bare stems and at the base of the plant, so I know it isn't dead.

There are black spots on my roses. How can I get rid of this problem?

We have bush type roses that grow on the south side of our home. Over the past few years we have noticed they are becoming infested with some type of pest that creates pods on the stem. It seems to suck the life out of that stem and moves on to another. Inside these pods are small worms. We have done some dusting in the past, with little luck. We trim out the infested stems, but it seems as this is becoming a losing battle, as more appear. What are these little pests and how can we be rid of them? 

I have had problems with rose borers in the past.  I am planning on purchasing new shrub roses and want to avoid this problem.

My rose bush is producing lots of buds.  Many of the buds turn brown and never fully open.  What can I do to fix this problem?

When my rosebush came down with black spot and aphids, I cut off the affected leaves and gave the plant a dose of systemic rose care. Now the flowers are like tea roses, with no fragrance. It's almost as if they changed species. How can I get my old roses back?

Our rose bush had burnt orange blossoms for 7 years. This year, we have dark red roses growing on the same bush. It also seems that it hasn't grown as tall.

My old fashioned "farmer" roses have developed growths on their stems and even on their roots. I think they are called "galls." Is there anything that can be used to kill this disease? I have cut out the damaged stems and roots but it seems to spread nevertheless.

Are there any good homemade remedies for controlling bugs and diseases on roses?

My lilac is having problems. There are holes along the edges of the leaves that look like someone went through with a hole punch, they're all nearly perfect. I didn't see any little critters.

I am wintering a miniature rose indoors.  It does not look very healthy.  What can I do to insure success?

My rose is covered with these fuzzy green growths. The plant seems to be doing fine but it looks like some kind of moss or another plant has sprouted out of the stems.

I have two rose bushes that do not bloom. The stems grow like crazy, so much so that I've had to cut them back twice to keep them from taking over my other rose bushes. Is there anything I can do or should I just destroy them? 

I have a climbing rose and a shrub rose that are not blooming.  They are both getting plenty of sun and are planted in well drained soil.  I have even tried fertilizer, but still no blooms.

I planted a rose bush 4 or 5 years ago and it has never flowered.  The stems are 7 to 8 feet tall, very thick and covered with healthy leaves, sharp thorns and no flowers.

I planted a climbing rose against my front porch. It has grown profusely but has never bloomed. The other roses in that same area have bloomed wonderfully all summer.

How do you prevent black spot on roses?

I have a small wild rose that I found on my property in the north woods and transplanted to a pot this summer. It was growing very well until about September. The leaves are now turning yellow and dropping off. Because I live in an apartment, I have to keep all my plants inside. Unfortunately, all my windows face north (no direct sunlight). I water my rose about once a week. Is it just dropping leaves for winter or is there another problem I should be addressing?

Something is attacking my roses.   It started with small areas turning light brown and now the whole leaf is a light brown with almost a lacy appearance.

We are currently having a problem with our hedge-type roses, and a climbing rose as well.  They are 1-2 years old.  They were doing fine, and over the past several weeks the leaves on a branch start to wilt, turning yellow then brown, and then the branch dies and eventually the whole plant dies. 

I have 6 Knock Out roses that were planted three years ago and keep getting better every year without winter protection. That is until now.  They do not look good and have lots of brown leaves on them from last year.  Was 2007-2008 a harder Great Lakes winter on our plants?  What can I do?

I garden in the north.  In late winter I went out and took a look at my rose garden.   All the stems look brown, no green anywhere even slightly.   Are they dead?
