Compact Hydrangea Varieties

Several new panicle hydrangea varieties expand planting possibilities for gardens and containers.

Little Hottie™ is a compact heat tolerant hydrangea that performs equally well in Minnesota as Georgia. The 3 to 5’ tall plant, introduced by Bailey’s Nursery is covered with large white blooms that turn soft pink in fall.

A trio of new hydrangeas are available from Proven Winners.
Limelight Prime® blooms earlier with more vivid color on a smaller plant than the original Limelight hydrangea.

Quick Fire Fab shares all the positive attributes of Quick Fire plus big showy mophead flowers.

Last of the trio is Fire Light Tidbit®. It produces large, lush flowers mid-summer on compact 2 to 3’ tall plants. The white blossoms turn bright pink to red and remain colorful until frost.

A bit more information:  Panicle hydrangeas are hardy in zones 3 to 8. They prefer full sun but will tolerate shade. Drought tolerant and a reliable bloomer, they make nice additions to informal hedges, screening, mixed borders or as specimen plants.
