Grow an Edible Herbal Centerpiece for the Holidays

Dress up the table and your holiday meals with a centerpiece of herbs.

Purchase plants for quicker results. Check with your local garden center or the produce department in your grocery store where many sell herb plants.

Include herbs your family likes and those that complement your menu.  Grow plants in individual containers or plant several in one decorative pot.  Use a quality, well-drained potting mix and container with drainage holes. Be sure to place a saucer under the pot to protect your furniture. Add a decorative placemat and a few seasonal items to complete your display.

And don’t forget the snips. Let everyone add their own favorite herbal seasonings to their meal.

When not dressing up the table, move your plants to a sunny window or under artificial lights. Water your edible centerpiece thoroughly whenever the top few inches of soil are starting to dry.

A bit more information: Or consider a tabletop holiday tree of Rosemary. You can often purchase this herb plant shaped into a tree during the holiday season. Provide bright light, a cool, draft-free location and moist but not soggy soil for best results. Then be sure to give it a pet and enjoy the fragrance as well as the flavor.
