Caring for Fiddle Leaf Fig Houseplants

Add a dramatic touch of elegance to your indoor décor with fiddle leaf fig.

You may have recently noticed these tree-like houseplants in many of the decorating magazines. Their tall columnar form and large fiddle-shaped leaves make them a standout against neutral colored walls and furnishings.

Grow these tropical beauties in or near a warm sunny window away from drafts of hot or cold air. Turn the plants occasionally to encourage even growth.

Water thoroughly whenever the top inch of soil is slightly dry.  Pour off any excess water that remains in the saucer. Or place pebbles in the saucer to elevate the pot above the excess water. Allow it to evaporate and increase the humidity around the plant.

Go easy on the fertilizer.  Most houseplants only need to be fertilized once every 1 to 3 months and only when they are actively growing – March through September.

A bit more information:  Dry soil, cold drafts and changes in environment can lead to leaf drop. Adjust the care and location as needed. Don’t fertilize stressed plants. Wait for new leaves to appear and plants to be actively growing before fertilizing.
