Glitzy Garden Jars

Add some glitz and hidden treasures to your garden for a bit of family fun this summer.

Use a clear water-proof silicone sealer to attach flat bottom glass gems to a used glass jar with a lid. Select colors that complement your flower bed or add a bit of pizzazz to those shady spots in the landscape.

Cover your work surface to protect it from the mess. Turn the jar upside down and cover the sides with sealer.  Starting closest to the work surface, place the gems in concentric circles around the sides of the jar. Once the sides are covered, add sealer and glass gems to the bottom of the jar.

Fill the decorative jars with secret messages or fun treasures before placing them, lid side down, mounted on a stake or set in the garden. Everyone will have fun uncovering hidden treasures and adding a few of their own.

A bit more information:  For more detailed directions visit Empress of The Dirt. Or for younger gardeners or a different twist, fill clear glass jars with colorful glass, stones or shells collected on vacation. It’s a great way to decorate the garden with treasures you collect along the way.
