Evergreen Selection – See Them Before You Buy
The choices are many making it difficult to select the best evergreen for your garden or container. The American Conifer Society wants to help make the selection and inclusion of conifers in the garden easier for you. They have partnered with public gardens to recognize more than 40 with designated Conifer Reference Gardens.
This joint effort supports both of their missions. The American Conifer Society promotes, propagates, and conserves cone bearing conifer plants and educates the public about them. Public gardens are also involved in conservation. They create display gardens and grow plants suited to the region to help educate professionals and home gardeners.
Conifer Reference Gardens are located throughout much of the United States. They are open to the public and must include a minimum variety and number of labeled plants.
A bit more information: Conifers are cone bearing plants. Most are evergreen but some like bald cypress and larch are deciduous, losing their needles each fall. Learn more about these plants and how to include them in your landscape at the American Conifer Society’s website.
