NGB 2019 Year of the Snapdragon
Plant some memories or create some new ones by growing a traditional favorite, the Snapdragon.
The National Garden Bureau has declared 2019 the Year of the Snapdragon. You’ll find singles, double, bi-colors and just about any color, but true blue. Grow taller varieties for cutting, intermediate in the garden or container and dwarf varieties as groundcovers or along a garden edge.
Try a trailing snapdragon like Candy Showers in a hanging basket, window box or container. Enjoy the classic look of tall snapdragons with less staking. Snaptastic combines the bushy nature of dwarf snapdragons with the elegance of taller varieties.
Snapdragons thrive during the cooler months of the growing season. Regular deadheading will boost their flowering, while hot weather can slow or stop flowering until cooler temperatures return.
A bit more information: Take a close look at the individual flowers and you’ll see how their shape inspired the common name. They are said to symbolize grace and strength or deviousness.
