Winter Care for Primrose
I have some primrose. Should I cut these back or do something special to care for them over winter?
Leave the primrose stand for winter. Research has shown that standing perennials are hardier and better able to tolerate harsh winter conditions. After the ground freezes you can cover the plants with evergreen boughs for a little added insulation and protection from fluctuating winter temperatures. I usually wait until after Christmas and use branches from my Christmas tree. Otherwise make sure this and other new plantings are well watered before the ground freezes. Poorly drained soils and fluctuating winter temperatures are usually the cause of winter death for primrose.
