What Plant Produces Sesame Seeds?

Sesame Seeds

What type of plant produces sesame seeds?

Sesame seeds come from the annual plant Sesamum indicum native to China, India and Turkey.  This plant has fuzzy dark green leaves and white to lavender colored flowers similar to foxglove.  The seeds that develop are harvested and used for baking.   Sesame plants can be started from seed but need a long hot summer to flower and produce seeds.
