Vernal Witchhazel
I recently read about witchhazel that said the plant had yellow blooms and leaves in fall. Mine blooms orange early in the spring and has the most beautiful yellow leaves in the fall. Do I have something other than a witchhazel?
Your beautiful plant is a vernal witchhazel (Hamamelis vernalis). This type of witchhazel has yellow, orange or red flowers in late winter or early spring often around the vernal equinox and beautiful yellow fall color. The common witchhazel (Hamamelis virginiana) also has beautiful yellow fall color. As the leaves drop they reveal fragrant yellow flowers that brighten the fall and winter landscape after most other plants have gone dormant.
