Variegated Snow on the Mountain Turning Green

I have a neighbor who has had huge patch of snow-on-the-mountain for many years and this year one area at one end is turning all green. What would cause this? Thank you for your help.

Many gardeners know this aggressive plant by its other common names Bishop’s or goutweed (Aegopodium podagraria). Like many variegated plants this one will often “revert” back to its green origins. The variegated variety is a mutation of the green species of Bishop’s weed. A stem or plant of the variegated variety mutated to green leaves. Or it is possible a chance seedling made it through the dense planting and it did not retain its variegated foliage. The green leaved plants are much more aggressive and should be removed if your neighbor wants to maintain the variegated planting.
