Using Railroad Ties to Create Raised Bed

I'd like to know if it's safe to use railroad ties to make raised flower beds.

Avoid using old railroad ties treated with creosote.  This material is no longer used due to the hazards to human health and the environment.  Consider some of the interlocking stones, naturally long lasting wood or timbers treated with some of the newer more environmentally friendly preservatives.
