Using Epson Salts
I heard Epsom salts was good for my plants. One friend said their plants were greener. Is this true?
Epsom salts contain sulfur and magnesium. These elements are readily available in alkaline soils so Epsom salts in not needed or beneficial. You may have heard that sulfur can help lower pH making the soils more acidic. You usually need such large amounts of sulfur to make a significant change that the existing plants are damaged. Have your soil tested before trying to raise or lower the pH. Test results will tell you what if any soil amendments or fertilizer you need to add. And keep in mind that just because we use a product in our home, on our body or in our food does not necessarily make it safe for plants and the environment.
