Planting Among Fieldstones
We have a fieldstone terraced back and front yard - the fieldstones face south. What can we try to plug in amongst the fieldstone (perennials) that would be colorful throughout the summer, spread and help to hold the soil in?
Select sun and drought tolerant perennials for best results. Sedums are commonly used for this purpose. They will bloom for a portion of the summer but their green, bronze or variegated foliage can add season long interest. Verbena canadensis, a perennial verbena hardy in zones 4 to 7, would provide nice lavender blooms all season long. Look for a reliable source to insure hardiness. Candytuft (Iberis sempervirens), rock cress (Arabis caucasica), and creeping phlox will tolerate these conditions and provide early spring bloom.
