Indian Pink
What can you tell me about Indian Pink? This beautiful wildflower shows up in the woods behind my house every June. Is this something we can add to our gardens.
Indian Pink or Maryland pinkroot (Spigelia marilandica), is a beauty. Native to moist woods you can find Indian pink from Maryland to Florida and west to Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Watch closely and you will notice the flowers open from bottom of the cluster to the top. Remove the withered flowers to extend the flower display. You can add these to your flower gardens for a colorful display from spring to summer. For best results grow them in fertile well-drained soil and partial shade. You can grow them in full sun as long as you keep the soil moist.
