Growing Sunflowers in Moist Soil

My green thumb is noticeably brown when it comes to growing sunflowers. I've even started them inside and then transplanted them outside, but they died. Do you have any growing tips? Is Seattle too rainy for sunflowers? What zones are appropriate for sunflowers?

Sunflowers like full sun, hot, dry conditions. Your weather may be just a bit too nice. Look for the sunniest best drained location for these plants. Or try Swamp sunflower (Helianthus angustifolius). This perennial relative of the common sunflower is not as big and bold in flower but it does tolerate moist conditions.
