Growing Oriental Poppy

I have two large Oriental poppy plants. They’re in the center of my flower beds and after they’re done blooming, their leaves get huge and smother out anything I try to grow nearby. What do you suggest?

Consider moving some taller and equally assertive plants next to the poppies. If this isn’t possible try supporting the leaves with some type of cage, stakes and twine or twigs strategically placed to keep the leaves off the surrounding plants.
