Caring for Cyclamen
I received a cyclamen for Christmas. How do I care for it?
The florist cyclamen (Cyclamen persicum) likes cool temperatures and moist, not wet, soil. So keep these plants away from the heat ducts. Remove flowers as they fade. These plants can bloom for several months with proper growing conditions and care. The leaves usually start to yellow and dry after flowering. Stop watering after the plant begins to yellow and dry. You can allow the plant to rest in a cool dark location until new growth appears. Or remove dried leaves and transplant the corms (swollen underground structure) into an organic soil. Keep the top of the corm level with the soil surface. Water and place in sunny location. Keep the soil moist and begin fertilizing after growth begins.
