Moisture Loving Plants

This water feature is beautifully anchored into the landscape with the help of plants. And notice they are all thriving in the moist conditions this water feature provides.

The large bold leaves of the Petasites grab your attention. This aggressive plant can be found growing along streams and even in shallow water and needs to be contained.

Ligularia is a moisture loving perennial. The bold foliage along with the yellow summer flowers makes it a great addition.

The same goes for astilbe and goats beard, small or large. Use all three waterside or in a moist shady spot in your landscape.

The iris nestled in the edge of the garden have just finished blooming. The native blue flag has broader leaves and the narrow leaved Siberian iris provides several seasons of interest.

The colorful leaves of the chameleon plant are kept in check by the surrounding concrete.

A bit more information: Include a few moisture loving shrubs in larger spaces. Chokeberries (Aronia) provide white flowers in spring, glossy green leaves in summer, red fall color and red or black fruit fall through winter. Elderberries are another good choice. The flowers and edible fruit add color and bird appeal to the landscape. The many new cultivars like Black Lace with its lacy purple leaves and Aurea with its yellow foliage provide added beauty.
