Nutritious Garden in a Pot

Add a bit of nutrition to your diet and landscape. Grow a container full of nutritious vegetables for your patio, deck or balcony.

Try using peppers, eggplants or tomatoes for a vertical accent. All are nutritious and suited for container gardens. Or how about corn for some fun. And try growing cucumbers, peas or beans up a decorative trellis a nutritional vertical accent for your pot.

Tuck a few onions and garlic in your container. Fragrant when crushed and found to lower blood sugar, cholesterol and aid in digestion.

And add some flavor, color, and crunch with carrots, beets and radishes. And dont forget the greens. Lettuce, spinach and other greens are high in Vitamin A and C and calcium.

So be creative and look for small scale attractive vegetables suited for containers and high in nutritional value.

A bit more information: Add nutrition packed plants throughout your landscape. Try tucking a few tomatoes, peppers or eggplants in with your annuals. Use pole beans, cucumbers and squash to mask a chain link fence. You can create edible edges for flower beds using parsley and nasturtium plants.

And if space allows, replace traditional shrubbery with raspberry, currants and elderberries. Rhubarb makes a bold statement in both the vegetable garden and landscape while the airy foliage of asparagus creates a nice backdrop for flowers and other ornamental plants.
