Boost your spirits this holiday season with some simple table decorations inspired by nature.

Save trimmings from your fresh cut Christmas tree, purchase greens from the garden center or gather a few from your landscape. Cut the stems to size before placing a few in a vase of water. Add some berry laden crabapple or holly branches for additional color. Include bare twigs for added interest and form in your arrangements.

Set a few greens beside each place setting or on top of a folded napkin set upon each plate. Add a bit of fragrance by using sprigs of Rosemary or lavender instead.

Use a container of pinecones or acorns for your centerpiece. Add some oranges, pomegranates or other colorful fruit to your table settings.

Even as many of us are planning smaller celebrations, setting a nature-inspired table can make any meal special.

A bit more information: Make a small wreath from grapevine trimmings or other pliable stems.  Dress them up with a sprig of greenery and use as a napkin or place card.
