Help the youngsters in your life channel all that energy and creativity into beautiful and useful gifts for the gardeners in their lives.

Create a small planter from an empty tuna, cat food or other shallow can and spring-loaded clothespins. Clip the clothespins onto the sides of the can until it is covered. Set a small potted plant or candle in the middle. It’s a quick and easy project for all ages.

Help children convert wooden spoons into garden markers.  Watch as your young artist creates colorful designs, renderings of flowers or vegetables or write the plant name on a colorful background.

Let them create a rainbow of color on a terracotta pot.  Cover the hole on the bottom of a terra cotta pot with tape.  Place the pot open side down on a protected surface. Then pour acrylic paint, one color at a time, over the top, it’s really the bottom, of the overturned pot.

A bit more information:  My grandchildren painted our pots on paper plates. I moved them to aluminum foil to prevent the buildup of paint from ruining our design. It took several days for the thick layer of paint to dry, but as you can see their designs were beautiful and we all had lots of fun.
