- Chinese astilbes (Astilbe chinensis) are drought tolerant and later blooming than the Arendsii hybrid astilbes (Astilbe x arendsii)

- Astilbe x arendsii 'Beauty of Ernst' Color FlashTM - Colorful foliage, more sun tolerant
- Astilbe chinensis 'Visions' - rhizomatous, slowly spreading, pink flower plumes
