A New Look at Coneflower
You love em but you're looking for a change. Dont rip out all those coneflowers. Instead, team them up with different plants for a different look in the garden.
Here they are teamed up with drumstick flowering onion. The colors blend well as the coneflowers peak through the allium. Or add a fine textured plant like dill to soften the bold texture of the coneflower.
Add a splash of white to your landscape with White Swan coneflower.
Try some of the newer cultivars for an even bigger change like Razzmatazz with its fully double flowers. Deadhead to increase blooming power.
Hot Papaya is the first double orange coneflower with colorful and fragrant flowers. Combine this long bloomer with other sun loving perennials.
Even as a young plant the Coconut Lime coneflower grabs your attention. Its long blooming in the garden and long lasting in a vase.
A bit more information: Chicagoland Grows, Inc. has introduced a new coneflower, Burgundy Fireworks. This compact plant grows 18 inches tall and about as wide. The petals (actually ray flowers) are beet red, upturned, and fused to form quills. Hardy in USDA zones 4 to 7 this coneflower grows best in full sun and medium moist soil.
