New Triumph Apple

If you like Honeycrisp apples, you’ll want to check out Triumph™, the latest apple variety developed by the University of Minnesota.

Triumph is the offspring of Honeycrisp and Liberty apples, resulting in an apple scab resistant variety. This means homeowners and growers will need to use fewer or no chemicals to manage scab and grow a more desirable apple.

As always, flavor is important. Triumph™ has a sweet, tart balanced flavor and although it is not as crisp as Honeycrisp it does have a firm, juicy texture.

Developing this apple took 30 years. And growing enough trees and fruit for sale will take a few more. So, if you want a tree or two, you’ll have to add it to your wish list. Triumph™ trees will be available at some garden centers on a limited basis in 2022.

A bit more information: The University of Minnesota has introduced 28 apple varieties, including Honeycrisp, the best-selling apple, and Triumph™. Other popular University of Minnesota apple introductions include Zastar®, SnowSweet®, SweeTango® and First Kiss®.
