2018 AAS Tomato Winners Valentine and Cocktail Red Racer
Nothing beats the flavor of fresh-from-the-garden tomatoes. But with so many varieties on the market how do you choose? Luckily you can get some help from All-America Selections. Judges across the country evaluate new varieties of vegetables and flowers for their suitability in backyard and container gardens.
Valentine is one of the two 2018 AAS tomato winners. You’ll enjoy the deep red fruit and sweet flavor of this grape tomato in as few as 55 days from transplant. The meaty fruit resists cracking and maintains its flavor longer on the vine than most.
Cocktail Red Racer, the other winner, produces clusters of flavorful 1½” diameter fruit. This compact 3’ tall plant is great for small space and container gardens. One judge shared “Red Racer is small in size, but big in taste.”
A bit more information: Cocktail tomatoes are larger than a cherry tomato, but smaller than a beefsteak. They are great for stuffing, tasty enough for salads and hearty enough for soups, stews and sauces.
