Growing Panicle Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata)

Hardy, versatile and easy care make panicle hydrangeas a popular landscape plant and one reason the National Garden Bureau declared 2020 the Year of Hydrangea.

Use panicle hydrangeas to create a beautiful screen, add structure and summer flowers to a mixed border. Or enjoy an individual plant as a specimen in the landscape. You’ll find varieties from 2 to 12 feet tall.

Grow panicle hydrangea in full sun for maximum flowering and moist well-drained soil. They also grow well in partial shade and once established will tolerate drier conditions.

Enjoy the mid to late summer blooms that start out white and fade to lime, pink or red then brown.

Best of all, you’ll only need to do minimal pruning if you select the best variety that fits the space and your landscape design.

A bit more information:  Leave the dried flowers on the plant for added winter interest. Remove them back to a set of buds in late winter or robust leaves in early spring.
