Celebrate Earth Day on April 22

Be part of the world’s largest secular celebration and join billions of people around the world as we celebrate Earth Day on April 22.

Earth Day was the brainchild of Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson. He wanted to raise awareness and concern for our environment through outreach and education. In 1970 more than 20 million people and thousands of schools and local communities participated in the first Earth Day.

In 1990 the celebration went global. Today the Earth Day Network collaborates with more than 17,000 partners and organizations in over 174 countries.

Be a part of this yearly celebration. Share your love of gardening with others.  Teach people of all ages how planting a tree, growing a garden for pollinators, or raising your own food can make a difference. And keep the celebration going all year long.

A bit more information:  Get the whole family involved. Take a hike, visit your favorite park or create a bit of Earth Day artwork.  Make your own planet earth image from a coffee filter and blue and green washable markers.
