Mark Bulb Locations at Planting
Many of us are busy adding spring flowering bulbs to the garden. Reduce the risk of damaging these bulbs by marking their location at planting.
Plant tags are always an option but often considered unsightly.
So, some gardeners use colorful long-stemmed golf tees to mark their bulb plantings. Coordinate the color of the tee with the bulb color or mark the tip with a number that matches the list of bulbs planted.
Sections of dowel rods can also be used. Cut them into 3 or 4” sections to create a sturdy marker. Paint the tip so it can easily be spotted in the ground. Place the dowel rod in the middle of the cluster of bulbs with the top just slightly above the soil surface. Consider using the paint color to identify the color of the bulbs you are planting. This makes it easy to create attractive combinations with when planting more bulbs in the future.
A bit more information: Prepare the soil before planting to increase growing success. Plant bulbs 2 to 3 times their vertical height deep and at least 2 to 3 times their diameter apart. Check out my bulb planting video for more information.
