Seed Art
Turn old seeds into works of art to decorate your home or give as gifts.
Large seeds like beans, peas and corn are easy for crafters of all ages to handle. Use tweezers for finer seeds like white and black wild rice that are great for finer details and texture. Select a variety of seeds of various sizes, shapes, and colors to create your masterpiece. Sort seeds into small containers or sections of egg cartons or muffin tins for easy retrieval.
Use a piece of wood or Masonite for your canvas. Many seed artists draw a rough sketch of their creation on the wood to make seed placement a bit easier. Attach a hanger to the back of the wood before you begin adding the seeds.
Spread a thin layer of glue over one area at a time. Add desired seeds and repeat until the picture is complete.
A bit more information: Check your spice cabinet for out-of-date items. Spices past their prime make great additions to seed art. Then plan on collecting seeds from your garden for future projects. Allow fresh seeds to dry before turning them into works of art.
