Plant a Gift for Dad this Father’s Day
Plant a gift for dad this Father’s Day and give a gift he can enjoy all season.
If the father in your life likes to grill, consider growing a pot or two of his favorite herbs. He can keep them near the grill and harvest what he needs for seasoning his favorite recipe.
Or maybe he is a big ice tea drinker. Grow a container of mint. He can pluck a leaf or two to add a bit of minty fresh flavor to his tea.
And, if he is a fisherman, consider helping him start a worm bin. All you need are a few pounds of redworms from the bait store, shredded paper, a plastic bin with holes in the bottom, a handful of soil, and plant type kitchen scraps. The worms will quickly turn the kitchen scraps into fertilizer for the garden and more worms for your Dad’s fishing trips.
Or offer to lend a hand with a few of dad’s yard care chores throughout the season. It’s a great gift and a chance to create memories together.
A bit more information: Plant a grass head with your dad. Fill the toe of an old nylon stocking with grass seed. Fill the remaining area with soil to create a head. Or create a perfectly round head by setting a tennis ball in the stocking and covering it with soil, peat moss or coir. Glue eyes, a nose, and mouth on the face of your grass head. Set in a glass container or flowerpot. Keep the seed and surrounding soil moist until the grass seed sprouts.
