Garden-Friendly Outdoor Games

Bring your favorite games to the garden or try something new this fall.

You may remember playing endless games of monopoly by candlelight on the picnic table in your childhood backyard.  Consider reinstituting outdoor game night with your favorite board games. Or add some fun with giant versions of chess, checkers, Jenga, and other popular games suitable for the backyard.

Horticulture Magazine offers Clock Golf as an option. All you need is one club, one golf ball and a cup. Create a clock on a fairly flat surface in the lawn. Mark the 12 hours of the clock surrounding a center point where you sank a cup. Each player takes a turn putting into the cup from each hour position.  Add up the total number of puts needed to sink the ball into the hole from each hour location.  The player with the lowest score wins.

A bit more information: Or create a living chess board from two groundcovers of contrasting colors. Or mow a maze in your lawn for some family fun.
