Pale Purple Coneflower, Echinacea pallida

Attract hummingbirds, butterflies and native bees to your landscape with the help of pale purple coneflower.

This North American native prefers full sun and tolerates poor soils, heat, drought, and humidity. But it doesn’t tolerate excessively moist and poorly drained soil.

Pale purple coneflower grows 3 to 5 feet tall. The stiff stems are topped with daisy like flowers. The drooping, pale pinkish-purple petals have a spiny coppery orange center cone.

You and the visiting pollinators will enjoy these flowers that usually appear several weeks before its relative the purple coneflower.

Pale purple coneflowers may flop when grown in rich moist soils. Surround them with strong supportive plants or cut them back early in the season. You’ll encourage stiffer, more compact growth and delay flowering by several weeks.

A bit more information:  Include pale purple coneflower in butterfly and bird gardens, natural plantings and mixed borders. You’ll enjoy the visiting pollinators and support the butterflies whose caterpillars feed on the leaves.
