Compact Hardy Coneflower Varieties
So many coneflowers to choose from and so little space. Don’t worry, there are quite a few compact varieties suited to containers and both small and large gardens.
Include any of these smaller coneflowers in containers, natural or informal plantings or in any garden where added color and winter interest is desired.
PowWow® Wild Berry has rosey purple flowers, grows about 2 feet tall and doesn’t need staking.
Virgin white flowered coneflower grows only 18 to 24” tall. The lightly fragrant white flowers appear from late spring through late summer.
Sombrero Salsa Red is a hardy red flowering coneflower. The 24 inch plants are well branched and covered with red flowers throughout the summer.
All three make great cut flowers and help attract butterflies to your garden. Leave the plants intact for winter so the seed heads can add beauty and provide food for the birds.
A bit more info: Grow these and other coneflowers in well-drained soil and full sun for best results. They will rebloom on their own but a little deadheading will extend their floral display.
