A New Look for Coneflowers

You love them, but you’re looking for a change.  Don’t rip out all those coneflowers.  Instead, team them up with different plants for a different look in the garden.

Mix in a few drumstick flowering onions for added color and texture.  The colors blend well as the coneflowers peak through the small allium flowers.  Or add a fine textured plant like dill to soften the bold texture of the coneflower. Keep in mind both plants reseed readily.

Add a splash of white to your landscape with White Swan or the first double white coneflower, Coconut Lime. This new introduction is long blooming in the garden and long lasting in a vase.

Try some of the other newer cultivars like Razzmatazz with its fully double deep pink flowers.  Deadhead to increase blooming power.

Hot Papaya is the first double orange coneflower with colorful and fragrant flowers. Combine this long bloomer with other sun loving perennials.

A bit more information:  Virgin has single and semi-double fragrant white flowers on compact (20-24”) plants.  PowWow Wild Berry is another compact plant, 16 to 20” tall and is topped with rose flowers with dark centers.
