2019 Year of Dahlia - There’s One for Any Size and Type of Garden

Dazzle visitors and attract pollinators to the garden with the flowering power of dahlias.

Plant dahlias directly in your garden or containers this spring and enjoy their blossoms mid-season through fall. You’ll trade the hassle of starting them indoors for a spectacular floral display later in the season. No matter what size or type of garden you have, dahlias will claim center stage and put on a sensational show.

Once you start shopping, you’ll find thousands of varieties in an array of colors, shapes and flower sizes ranging from two to ten inches in diameter. There are dahlias suitable for cutting gardens, perennial gardens, landscaping and containers. It’s no wonder the National Garden Bureau has declared 2019 The Year of the Dahlia. To help you find the best dahlias for your garden check out Longfield Gardens’ Guide to Dahlia Flower Types and Sizes.

A bit more information:  Dahlias make a great low maintenance addition to gardens. Just plant the tuberous root in a sunny, well-drained location, once the soil has warmed to about 60 degrees. Don’t plant them too early though as dahlias won’t grow in cold soil and the leaves can be damaged by frost.
