Yellow Loosestrife
Can you tell me about the plant Yellow Loosestrife? My grandmother gave me a start for my garden.
The spreading nature of these beauties make them favorite pass along plants. Though they share a common name the yellow loosestrife (Lysimachia punctata) should not be confused with the invasive purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria). The yellow loosestrife your grandmother shared blooms late spring through early summer and spreads by underground stems (rhizomes) allowing it to take over other perennials. So use this plant where it has room to spread or with equally assertive plants. This yellow flowering plant grows best in full sun or partial shade and moist soils. Dry shade will help slow its growth and keep it a bit more in line. Hardy in zones 4 to 8 it does best in its northern range.
