Wood Hyacinth
Every year, this plant springs up in my yard. It resembles a hyacinth, but has no scent. Can you help me with its identity?
This blooming beauty is commonly known as wood or Spanish hyacinth. You may find it listed under several botanical names including Hyacinthoides hispanica or Endymion hispanicus or Scilla hispanica. No matter what you call it, this beauty makes a nice addition to the perennial garden. The hyacinth-look-alike is shade tolerant and can grow in a wide range of soils. Hardy in zones 4 to 9 it is planted in fall with other spring flowering bulbs.
