Wild Garlic

The former owner planted garlic around the garden. Now it is spreading wildly into my asparagus bed. Do I need to pull out the garlic or is it compatible with asparagus? It does seem to crowd out other weeds.

The aggressive garlic plants sounds like wild garlic (Allium vineale) or wild onion (Allium canadense) rather than the domestic plants we cultivate for our gardens. These "weeds" can choke out desirable plants as well as the weeds. The plants spread by seeds and underground bulblets. I would control the wild garlic to prevent it from eventually overtaking the asparagus patch. Pulling often fails as the bulbs are left behind and resprout new plants. Continual cultivation and a heavy layer of mulch should keep the population under control.
