What to Expect from Spring Flowering Bulbs After a Spring Cold Snap

What can we expect from our spring bulbs after a cold snap?

Changing and challenging weather, no matter where you live, keeps gardeners guessing. Snow can provide a blanket of insulation for bulbs and perennials in colder regions. But a mid-winter thaw or a cold snap in spring can create a bit of concern for our spring flowering bulbs. I remember tracking temperatures and bloom times in spring of 1995. The temperatures dropped to 15 degrees and amazingly the glory of the snow, squills and other early bulbs were fine. Some of the early daffodil and tulip buds were damaged, others just suffered brown tips on their leaves but all survived and returned the following spring. This is just another case of wait and see, since nature always has the last say.
