Wattle Fence
Weave Your Own Fence or Divider
Recycle your twigs and branches by creating a rustic wattle fence. Use these for screening, fencing, dividers or edging. These woven fences have traditionally been made of hazel and willow, but any pliable branch will do.
1. Select stout sturdy stems that are at least as long as the desired fence height plus one
foot. Shape or prune the base into a point for easier installation.
2. Push or pound the support stakes into the ground at least 8” preferably deeper and 2 ft
apart.
3. Select long (the length of the fence) pliable branches that will create the sides.
4. Weave the pliable branches in front of one post, behind the next and continue alternating
the length of the fence.
5. Slide the first woven row to the bottom. Adjust so it is even across the bottom of the
fence.
6. Repeat alternating the weaving so one row is under and the next row is over the support.
In no time you will have recycled your yard waste into an attractive and functional addition to
your landscape.
